IMPORT PROCESS

OUR IMPORT PROCESS

1. CONSULTATION

_________________

Our clients reach out with the specifications of the luxury vehicle they are looking for.
Specification details include but not limited to:

Vehicle make and model, vehicle exterior colour, interior colour and material, preferred mileage range, budgets etc.

The client is also required to pay 10% of estimated total import costs to initiate the sourcing process.

2. VEHICLE SOURCING

______________________
The Mara begins sourcing for the desired vehicle, while updating the client on the progress of the sourcing process.
In Japan, The Mara sources from Japanese Auctions for JDM units, which is our primary source.
For other high end luxury cars or zero mileage units, The Mara sources from Authorised Dealerships in Japan, United Kingdom, Thailand and Australia.

3. DOCUMENTS SIGNING

______________________

Once we have successfully sourced a vehicle, the Mara prepares the necessary agreement with the vehicle information filled on the document. The client and The Mara sign the agreement. The client is also required to update the deposit amount to 60% or equivalent of the CnF cost of the vehicle to initiate the shipping process.

4. PRESHIPPING INSPECTION

_______________________

Once documents are signed and payment made, the vehicle goes through inspection by QISJ to obtain an inspection certificate while strictly adhering to KEBS regulations. The vehicle is also prepared for shipping, where import documents are also prepared. Import documents include export certificate, a bill of lading and other necessary documents.

5. SHIPPING

_______________________

The vehicle is prepared for delivery to receiving country by either sea or air freight. Shipping by sea is primarily through containerised shipping and it takes 45 to 60 days to Mombasa Port. Air freight shipment takes 7 to 10 days to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. A few days to vehicle arrival, the client is required to clear the remaining balance to cater for customs duties and taxes, port charges and registration costs.

6. CUSTOMS CLEARANCE/REGISTRATION

________________________

Once the vehicle arrives at the port of Mombasa/JKIA, it goes through customs for clearance by paying the necessary import duties and taxes. This is done directly in the client’s name. Afterwards, the vehicleis registered into NTSA for obtainance of a logbook and a numberplate, directly registered in the client’s name unless directed otherwise. Once the vehicle is registered, the client is required to liase with an insurance agency for provision of motor vehicle insurance policy. This service can be offered by The Mara at the client’s request.

7. VEHICLE DELIVERY

_______________________
The vehicle goes through pre-delivery inspection, then prepared for delivery to client. Delivery is primarily by a carrier truck to Nairobi and other parts of the country.

8. DOCUMENTS SIGNING

________________________

Once the vehicle is delivered to the client, delivery documents are signed to finalize the import process and officially hand over the vehicle to the client. After-sales services are provided to make the transition smooth and easy, making the import process an end-to-end service.
